We travel to 1980s Scotland to meet John Davidson, a confident, sporty 12-year-old whose life is suddenly turned upside down by uncontrollable tics that make him stand out at school and at home. Misunderstood and isolated for years, and only officially diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome at the age of 25, everything begins to change after a chance encounter with Dottie, a mental health nurse who finally sees him with kindness and acceptance — a turning point that reshapes his life and leads him to become an important figure in educating people about Tourette’s syndrome.
❤️ WHAT I LOVE about this film is how real it feels. The filmmakers worked closely with Davidson, and the actors spent time with him in real life to portray his movements, mannerisms, and daily experiences with honesty and care. The performance of Robert Aramayo, who plays the adult version of Davidson, is simply mind-blowing 🤯
Tourette’s is often misunderstood, and this film helps us see the human being behind the condition with empathy, warmth, and humor.
It’s funny, powerful, profoundly moving, and thought-provoking. One of the best films I saw in 2025!
🏆Just received 5 BAFTA nominations, with an outstanding 8.4 on IMDb and a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes! With strong momentum on the festival circuit, it looks set to pick up even more awards this year!
