Event Information
This Monday, we travel to Taipei, stepping into the vibrant, crowded world of night markets, sizzling food stalls, and narrow streets filled with noise, light, and life. Here, we meet a struggling single mother and her two daughters who have just arrived in the city, hoping to start over by running a small food stand and rebuilding their lives.
But survival in the city is never simple. As they navigate debts, family tensions, and the fragile hope of a fresh start, the youngest daughter who is lefthanded becomes caught in a quiet conflict when her traditional grandfather insists she stop using her left hand. Through everyday moments of work, play, frustration, and tenderness, the family’s bonds are tested, reshaped, and slowly strengthened.
👧🏻👩🏻👩🏻🍳 Left‑Handed Girl (2025)🌙🍜 🇹🇼
❤️ WHAT I LOVE about this film is how it feels incredibly raw and alive, capturing the messy mix of struggle and small happiness that makes up real life. Because….this film was shot entirely on iPhones!!! So the crew could blend into real night markets and capture life as it actually unfolds! It simply lets us sit inside it, while still finding warmth, humor, and beauty in ordinary moments.
I also love how culturally rich the film feels. The night market isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a living environment full of texture, sound, and community. And the story around correcting a left-handed child adds another layer, reflecting how traditions, superstitions, and generational expectations can quietly shape identity even today.
And finally, the performance of the little sister, played by Nina Ye, is just HEART-MELTING! She brings such natural charm and emotional honesty that the entire film seems to breathe through her perspective. Cute, funny, stubborn, vulnerable, and deeply human all at once.
🏆Directorial debut by Taiwanese American director Shih-Ching Tsou, co-written and edited by Oscar-winning director Sean Baker (Anora), the film holds an outstanding 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, has won 14 awards worldwide, and was selected as Taiwan’s official submission to the Academy Awards!
It is a down-to-earth story about a family, tradition, and one adorable little girl you can’t help but fall in love with!
✨ After the film, let’s engage in a friendly discussion to share thoughts, learn from each other, and make new friends!
