This Monday, we’re taking a journey to the heart of Austria, Vienna, where we’ll visit a peculiar service agency called MyCompanion, which provides professional stand-ins for all kinds of social and family roles. This is where we meet Matthias, a cultured and confident actor who can be hired to fill almost any role you desire—from the perfect son to the cultured boyfriend, or even an argument-sparring partner. Matthias is at the top of his professional game. But when it comes to his own life, things become increasingly complicated. He is so good at becoming whoever other people need him to be that he struggles to simply be himself — especially with his girlfriend.

As the line between playing a role and being himself begins to blur, Matthias is forced to confront a question he may not be prepared to answer: who is he when there’s no role left to play?

❤️ WHAT I LOVE about this film is that OMG, I Looooove this film!!! This film takes the concept of Rental Family (which we watched earlier this year) with an Austrian twist, and looks at it through the lens of understated dark comedy à la Force Majeure, turning it into a hilarious social satire about the masks we wear in everyday life! It is so delightfully awkward and funny! (Oh man, I laughed so hard!)

Not only that, the detailed and tight writing leaves no unnecessary frames, while the impeccable cinematography, meticulously composed scenes, and amazing nuanced acting by the cast make this a perfectly crafted piece of art!

🏆 Although this is the feature debut of director Bernhard Wenger, who was only 32 when he made the film, Peacock premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won an award, and was selected as Austria’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards!

It’s a cringy, funny, yet thought-provoking dark comedy that you don’t wanna miss on our big screen!
