This Friday, we will take a journey to Tokyo again! But this time, it’s not the usual bustling megacity — it’s Tokyo with no electricity!
One day, the power supply suddenly stops across all of Japan, and along with it, gas, water, transport, communication, and every modern convenience vanish. As daily life collapses, people are forced into a self-sufficient way of living. Here we meet the Suzuki family, an ordinary middle-class household. They’re not dysfunctional, but not especially functional either: a routine-bound salaryman father who complains more than he acts, a typical housewife mother who can’t even bring herself to kill a live fish, and two teenagers lost in their modern comforts. When survival in the city becomes impossible, they set off by bicycle toward relatives in rural Kagoshima who still farm and fish for a living. The journey forces them to learn survival skills and cooperate for the first time in their lives, rediscovering what it means to be a family….

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🚲Survival Family (2016)🔌🌾🇯🇵

❤️ WHAT I LOVE about this film is that, unlike Hollywood disaster movies, it is NOT dark or violent. There are no villains, no explosions. Instead, it approaches collapse with humor and warmth, turning the crisis into a gentle social satire about our dependence on technology, currency, and the fragility of modern life.

📖 And at its core, it’s about family dynamics shifting under pressure. The father loses his role as unquestioned breadwinner, the old patriarchal structure quietly erodes, and the teenagers must learn to live without smartphones or convenience. Through small struggles and awkward cooperation, the film becomes a funny, tender portrait of people learning how to live — and how to belong to one another.

It’s a rare kind of disaster film that stays comedic yet natural, unfolding into a story that feels both deeply human and genuinely thought-provoking. Don’t miss the chance to watch it on our BIG SCREEN.

✨ After the film, let’s engage in a friendly discussion to share thoughts, learn from each other, and make new friends!
