Event Information

This Friday we travel to a bucolic village, 65 km northwest of Tehran, Iran where golden barley fields ripple in the wind around a quiet ostrich farm. Here we meet Karim, the farm’s chief wrangler — a gentle, hardworking father supporting his wife, two daughters, and a young son. Life moves with the steady rhythm of the countryside until fate suddenly takes his job away.

🇮🇷🦩❤️*The Song of Sparrows* (2008) 👨🏼‍⚕️🕊️🧕

Just as his daughter’s precious hearing aid needs replacing the film follows Karim’s search for work that carries him from his peaceful village into the restless pulse of the city.
What follows is a tender journey through small choices, unexpected encounters, and the quiet tension between dignity and survival. The story unfolds with warmth, humor, and deep compassion — revealing the beauty and complexity hidden in ordinary life.

🎬❤️*What I love about this film:*

It is a celebration of quiet natural beauty and innocence. Sunlit barley fields shimmer in the wind, village paths unfold gently, and children wander freely through the adult world with curiosity and playfulness—reminding us how magical ordinary moments can be.

One of the quiet strengths of the film is its authenticity. Director Majid Majidi does not try to explain Iran to the outside world through politics or spectacle. Instead, he simply follows Karim, a father doing his best to care for his family, allowing village rhythms, family bonds, and the quiet dignity of everyday life to speak for themselves. In doing so, the film becomes a rare cultural window into Iran—revealing warmth, humor, and resilience that feel deeply human and universal.

Visually, the film is luminous and alive—a true gift. From glowing barley fields, gentle flow of village, jou of children to the vibrant rhythm of city streets, its richness is something best experienced on the BIG SCREEN.

🏆🎦 Directed by the beloved Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, whose "Children of Heaven" many of us cherish, the film received international acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival, where Reza Naji won the Silver Bear for Best Actor for his deeply moving portrayal of Karim.
