Are you ready for a documentary filled with exhilarating music, irresistible rhythms, and extraordinary musicians?
[ATTENTION] Please note that the term “Gypsy” is considered derogatory by many Roma people today. We will use the term “Roma” instead.
This Monday, we're hitting the road with 35 incredible Roma musicians on a six-week North American tour in 2001! Coming from five musical groups across four countries, Romania, Macedonia, Spain, and India, they speak different languages and come from different traditions. But music and dance bring them together in ways words cannot.
From the powerful vocals of Esma Redžepova, the “Queen of the Roma,” and the virtuosic Romanian folk musicians of Taraf de Haïdouks, to the explosive brass of Fanfare Ciocărlia, the vibrant folk traditions of Rajasthan, and the passionate rhythms of flamenco, this film is a celebration of Roma people’s musical diversity!
Beyond the electrifying live performances, we get an intimate glimpse into life on the road, as the musicians discover one another's traditions, build friendships, and welcome us into their homes to meet their families.
It is a journey into the lives of remarkable musicians, where music transcends language, connects cultures, and brings people together.
