Quick answer: On Balievents you create a promo code in the Promo codes tab of your host dashboard. A code takes a percentage or a rupiah amount off each ticket, for one event (or one of its tickets) or all your events, from an optional start date to an optional expiry, up to a number of uses. Guests enter it when they book, the discounted total is charged, and the dashboard shows who used each code.

Fast facts — from the Balievents host dashboard:

Discount
a percentage, or an amount in IDR off each ticket
Applies to
one event, one ticket of an event, or all your events
Limits
optional start, expiry and maximum number of uses
Tracking
who used each code, what they paid and what they saved
Who manages codes
you, or a team member with the Marketing role
Cost
free; the 3% service fee is worked out on the discounted price

When is a promo code the right tool?

A code gives a discount to the people you hand it to, and nobody else. Use one when you want a lower price for a group, not for everyone:

  • Your regulars or members: a code in your newsletter or members' chat.
  • A partner: a hostel, a coworking space or a villa company in Canggu or Ubud gives its guests a code.
  • A launch: the first 30 bookings of a new night in Uluwatu at 20% off.
  • An apology: a guest whose night went wrong gets money off the next one.

If you want a lower price for everyone, set an online discount on the event instead: the lower price shows on the page. If you want to know who sold each ticket, use promoter links; see event promoters and ad tracking in Bali.

How do I create a promo code?

  1. Open Promo codes in your host dashboard.
  2. Type the code, for example SUMMER25.
  3. Choose the discount: % off each ticket, or IDR off each ticket.
  4. Choose the event, or leave it on All events; for one event you can pick one ticket.
  5. Set limits if you want them: Max uses, Starts and Expires.
  6. Save and share the code.

What does the guest see?

On an event that takes a code, the code field is open in the booking form. The guest types the code and sees the discounted total, with the 3% service fee, before they pay. A code that does not apply says so: "That code doesn't work for this event", or for this ticket.

A code that takes off the whole price leaves nothing to pay online. For free entry, set up a free guest list instead; see how guest lists work in Bali.

How are uses counted?

A use is an order, not a ticket. A paid order counts as used. An order whose payment page is still open holds its use while the guest pays, so two guests cannot both take the last use of a code. If they do not pay, the use comes back.

The Promo codes tab lists who used each code, what they paid and what they saved.

Who pays for the discount?

You do. The discount comes off your ticket price, and your payout is worked out on what the guest actually paid. The guest's 3% service fee is worked out on the discounted price.

Example: a IDR 200,000 ticket with a 25% code. The guest pays IDR 150,000 plus a 3% service fee, IDR 154,500. On the Free plan your payout for that ticket is IDR 150,000. How payouts work: how event hosts get paid in Bali.

Can my marketing team manage codes?

Yes. Add them under Team with the Marketing role, and they can create, change and delete your promo codes.
